I have a issue. I have run out of space on my freenas drive. However when I delete something it free's up space, but at the same time, the space disappears again. If I refresh the space on my NAS in windows I see the space is disappearing untill 0 GB is left. Can someone help?

Are you using ZFS with snapshots turned on?

Disable your snapshots and delete some of them, that should help if you're using ZFS.

Another thought is maybe you have the recycle-bin turned on. I don't use it, so I'm not sure where the settings are, but look for that if you're not using ZFS.

Thanks for the answer. However I just checked, and I am not using ZFS or recycle-bin. Hope you or another have an idea of whats happening, it has worked perfectly, and I have not changed anything.

At least give us a hint about the kind of setup you are talking about.

Use 'top' to see if there's odd activity.

Here is some info..

Hostname server.local
FreeNAS Build FreeNAS-8.0.2-RELEASE-i386 (8288)
Platform VIA C7 Processor 1800MHz
Memory 1906MB
System Time Tue Apr 24 13:56:06 2012
Uptime 1:56PM up 6:35, 0 users
Load Average 0.13, 0.05, 0.04
OS Version FreeBSD 8.2-RELEASE-p3

I have an SCSI pci controller, connected to 6x 1gb disks running raid 5.

Looks like its jumping up and using 1.7gb memory, not sure if that's normal. I just had -bytes free in windows when I checked the NAS.

Sorry I am new at this, what do you mean by "top"? Reporting in the system tab?

I have now reinstalled freenas on a new 8gb flash card, but the issue continues. Can the problem be in my scsi raid controller?
