Now that I have freenas installed...Having an issue

I can't seem to get my quad nic to work. It's an Intel Pro 1000 (pci-e). I'm not sure if it's a VT or ET (since the model number sticker is missing). I bought the card on Ebay. My hardware is as follows.

Asrock C2750
16gb Kingston ECC DDR3
Intel Pro1000 quad nic.

When I'm in the Freenas dashboard and view interfaces, it only lists igb0 and igb1. Those appear to be the dual onboard nics. There is no other interface to choose or add. When I have a cable plugged into the quad nic I get a link light, but no activity. I've tried all four ports and get the same results.

I'm a complete freenas noob, so be gentle. Any input would be greatly appreciated!

There is a chance. I got the card on Ebay. I bought it from a guy with a good seller rating, but the chance is there. He offered a 14 day return policy, but I'm past that now.

As far as what the card should show up as, I think according to the freebsd page it should be showing up as "igb(4)".

The igb(4) driver supports Gigabit Ethernet adapters based on the Intel 82575 and 82576 controller chips:

With a cable plugged into the nic, I do get a link light but no activity light. I saw somewhere that having the link light is a good thing. Can someone here shed some light on this, or help me work through this?

Hm, the board doesn't even show up there. Even if no driver was attaching the PCI device, it should still appear. Maybe double check that it's fully seated (the fact that the link LEDs light up when you connect something would seem to indicate it is, but worth a try). I also have the ASRock C2750D4I, and as far as I recall, there's nothing in the ROM setup that would disable the slot (and on mine, I have an LSI 9211-8i SAS adapter in it, which definitely works).

Do you have anything else you could try booting up with it plugged into it to see if it works? Barring that, it sounds like you got a dud. Sorry. :|

Thanks for the quick response. I was afraid the card was junk. I do have another machine I can throw it in just to verify. I will do that tomorrow and assuming it doesn't work, I'll have to deal with PayPal since I'm over the 14 day period for a return. Thanks for your help!

If the card turns out to be a dud, use some courtesy to ask the seller to refund your purchase before filing a complaint with Paypal. I buy and sell computer parts on ebay all the time and can assure you that most good sellers will honor a request to return something that is defective - even if you are slightly beyond the specified return period.

I planned to e-mail the seller first, without a doubt! I'll give him a chance to make it right.

I've tried the card in two other machines, I can't get it to even recognize on any machine. I installed the card in a windows 7 machine and it doesn't even show up in device manager. I'm pretty sure she's a dud. I'm going to email the seller and see what happens.
