Windows workgroups

Does FreeNAS use Windows Workgroups? From a Windows system I can access shares on my FreeNAS server by

net use v: \\FREENAS\REPO where REPO is a samba share. Where does the \\FREENAS come from and how do I tell if it is part of the Windows workgroup 'WORKGROUP'?

The hostname is defined by the settings you defined when setting up FreeNAS.

The workgroup can been seen/changed by going into Services > SMB .. http://doc.freenas.org/9.10/services.html?highlight=workgroup#smb

It must be noted that Windows workgroups have always been rather fiddly and capricious things.
