I am sure this has been asked and answered, but my google-fu is a little off today... long day at work.

I just realized when I went to a virtualized environment under ESXi, I must have downloaded the wrong version like an idiot. I was on 11.1U4 pre ESXi, I am not on 11.0U4, oops.

I know 11.1U6 is out, but I know I have read of some issues with it, and honestly 11.1U4 was fine so I figure lets just get back to that point if possible. Hopefully it will fix a script issue I have as well. Probably not, but it worked previously, and is working on a friends 11.1U6 system both under ESXi so worth a shot.

TLDR; how do I go from 11.0U4 to 11.1U4? Or, really, should I #justsendit and let it auto update to 11.1U6?

Out of curiosity, what issues with U6?
Off hand I don't know any specifically, I just remember reading some folks wanting to go back to U4. That said, I had issues with 11.1U4 I didn't have with 9.10. So, I am really not the person to answer the why or how as I never got them solved and ended up going the ESXi route because of it.

The issue I had on u4 was I couldn't get a cron job in a jail to work for the life of me, and no one on here seemed to be able to help either. the WebUI schedule job wouldn't run anything, couldn't even get it to log an issue, and crontab resulted in the same. I eventually just gave up and have now solved that issue with ubuntu running next to freenas...

But, since I figure I can always just go backwards, I am currently watching my VM reboot into U6. So, I guess I am still curious of how I would do this if it came to it, but hopefully U6 doesn't present any issues, I don't expect it to in all honesty.

Assuming you updated from u4 to u6, You would just select u4 from your boot environment in the FreeNAS pre boot

I guess more clarity would be better. If I am now on 11.1u6, but came from 11.0u4, would I use the method in question to go to 11.1u4?

Numbers are getting confusing lol. But I am assuming U6 will likely be ok. I suppose we will find out.

As far as i know downgrades have never been supported. Youll have to boot into your previos boot environment as @Stux suggested and perform the manual upgrade from there.

I suspect most people who wanted to go back from 11.1-U6 would have been the ones impacted by the breaking change around NTLM-v1 and SMB shares no longer working for older devices/OS clients.
