I have two FreeNAS boxes on my 10.10.10.xxx subnet and am setting up the jails. In Jails -> Configuration, can I have the same IPV4/24 address range on both the machines or do they have to be non-overlapping?

My understanding is that it should be ok to set the same jail IP address range on both machines, say 10.10.10.201 - 10.10.10.230, but have to a assign distinct IP address for each plugin on either machine.

What is the preferred setup? Is there a best practice?

Correct.

There isn't. It depends upon your network setup and what you're trying to accomplish.

The trick is, is to IP all gear on your network.
I leave 00 to 10 for roam
20-30 for servers
40+ for my PCs
50+ for printers
Just write down the IP and work it out
