Hi all!

So i have an issue where if i go to reporting every hdd shows null as temperature. Dropping into SSH and using smartctl the temperature data can be read out from them. I am not a pro so i do not have the foggiest idea where to start so i would appreciate any ideas.

Thanks!

Is this when the system is just started or even after a day online?
I have seen the same issue but after serveral hours the system started to show the temperature..

What does smartctl -a <one disk drive> result in?

Hmm ... weird. I thought, FreeNAS uses SMART to get the data, and speculated something might be blocked by your combination of HBA and backplane ...

Same here. Reporting and dashboard not showing disk temperatures at all. But command smartctl shell command works fine.

I have the same problem.

I am using HPE ProLiant Microserver Gen10 Plus (part number P16006-421) and 2 x 6 TB Seagate IronWolf ST6000VN001 HDD recently bought. Boot device is USB connected Verbatim SSD M.2 drive 120 Gb.

So the problem is similar
In Reporting for Disk, from time to time I got information (temperature) either for this USB drive and both HDD, but many times I have for tempertarue for devices /dev/ada0 and /dev/ada1 just values "null".

If i use "zoom minus" i am getting sometimes values, but in scale that is not very usefull.

Does anyone know if there is trick to show correct temperature.

Also, results of the SMART tests are pretty poor.
I have recently used Nas4FREE (currently it is xigmaNAS) and it works perfectly, and report for devices is much more detailed than in TrueNAS, I guess it could be improved.

After some time, I found where is the problem.
HDD temperatures will be properly shown, only in case if you decide to "burn" your HDDs running them all the time, without spin off or standby mode.

In such case, temperature will be shown well.
By my opinion, it is problem with Operating System then (from my recent experience with XigmaNAS it works fine regardless the chosen configuration and SMART reports are much more detailed).

If someone knows how to address issue to TrueNAS developers, it would be good way to go on.

I saw this issue today on TrueNAS-SCALE-22.02.2.1. All drives reporting null after reboot. Running smartctl manually on my first device brought all the info back online.

Afternoon All,

I know this is an old post but I have the same issue and yes as soon as I have run smartctl against a couple of my drives ( Nvme0n1 and sda ) the reporting came to life..

I have an admin account and run smartctl as Sudo in shell.

I have also noted that none of the HDD temperatures are displayed though if you choose them in the report column drop down just a blank space.

My specs are below in the usual place.

Anybody know of an update on this issue?

TIA

PS... Sorry forgot to say that when I run it as Sudo I still have to type my password as it is request immediately after my first entry then after that I can run it again while in the same shell session but something if I leave the shell session up and try again it request my password again.

I guess it have a session limitation with no activity protection in place.

The reason Im telling you this is I think I set up ( I will double check ) Sudo as a given privilege so I did have to type it. Maybe this is a permissions issue thing with running an object especially for the reports to display correctly.. iHowever, I might be barking up the wrong tree..

TOS5.x TerraMaster Convert to TrueNAS - My system is a fresh build as two days ago..

Any idea of what's happening with this would be good to know..

TIA

Is there an issue on JIRA? That's where you might get an update from the developers. If there isn't, please create one. This is the community forum. I have no idea.
