I am presently running a FreeNAS production system and a FreeNAS Backup system. On the production system, a replication task is pushing periodic snapshots of a dataset to the backup system. In order to keep the amount of snapshots on the production system limited, the periodic snapshots created only have got a livetime of three days. As the replication keeps the snapshots on the production and backup system in sync, the backup system also only keeps snapshots for the last three days. However, I would like to keep daily snapshots for a month on the backup system. Creating an according periodic snapshot task on backup system is possible, but then the replication does not work anymore as the pushing system then notices that the backup system has "divergent snapshots", the replication fails.
Has anyone got an idea/solution that can be used to keep additional snapshots on the backup system?
