Its basically an 8 bay hotswap JBOD, with a pair of External Mini-SAS SFF-8088 connectors, integrated PSU/Cooling in a shiny hifi component style case.

Would work well to expand a smaller pre-existing hifi/htpc NAS

Would probbaly work better as an expansion for something like this:

Some of the XeonD FlexATX boards come with quad mini sas ports... you'd be able to re-route two if you wanted... eventually...

Just thought it was a neat thing :)

Gorgeous unit. There's also the TS431S for the budget minded, at a little more than 60% of the price for two.

Hmm, I see a couple of problems:
  • Cooling looks dubious
  • The PSU is unknown
  • Being completely passive, it's going to be limited to 1m total cable length with SATA drives. SAS drives could obviously handle longer cables.

So essentially it's an eSATA box that doesn't use a port multiplier ;)

Mostly, but it's going to be most useful with SAS drives.
