I'm building a new TrueNAS Scale server. I'm building this for a small team of media editors. Looking for reliability, performance, and for it to be easy to scale.
Server:
Motherboard: Asrock Rack ROMED8-2T
Processor: AMD EPYC™ 7313p
Memory: Starting at 256GB and will expand to 512GB
The server will be in a Supermicro CSE-826BE1C-R920LPB 12-Bay case.
LSI 9500-16e HBA card
I will probably run 04 4TB ssd's on the server in raid z2 or run two set in raid z1.
Storage Units:
I will be running the same case Supermicro CSE-826BE1C-R920LPB 12-Bay with JBOD power board for the drives. I would like to run a SAS expander in these boxes so it only takes one of the external SAS ports on the server. I was going to run each 12bay unit in Raid Z2. I'm starting with two 12 bay units fully populated with 24 drives.
Hard Drives:
HGST 12TB 4kn SAS drives
Community Recommendations:
First would you recommend different hardware for server?
What SAS expander do you recommend for the 12 bay cases?
Do you recommend a different layout for drives?
