replacing harddrives with ssd - short of sata ports

i have a problem with lags. it is described in depth here

would setting sync off on a smb share improve it's speed?

would i be able in this case to add a slog? because from what i understand a slog in no good with smb which is usually a-sync. i'm kind of lost here. if you can give me a direction i will gladly read it. ryzen 3 3200g 3.6ghz raedon vega 4 am4 asus tuf b450 gskill aegis 2*8gb 3000 ddr4 cl16...

since i can't say for sure what the problem is, i think i'll just switch to ssd and this will make both read and writes fast enough. problem is i don't know how to do the switch because i have 3 out of 4 sata slots taken. i want to import my data while the disks are already in and then take the wd out and use them somewhere else.

also if someone can tell me how do i calc the metadata in my usage that would be great.

You're going to need an HBA. Make sure that you do not get a hardware RAID card or, if you do that you can flash it to IT mode so it functions like an HBA. Doing some searching around the forums should give you loads of information about what an HBA is, recommended models, as well as how to flash a RAID card to IT mode if you can't find a straight HBA to use.
