Hello,

I tried reporting to the Bug reports, but my account doesn't seem to get verified for login.

I am very new to the FreeNAS community.

I have a Dell PowerEdge in production running FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201503200528

It has been working well, except recently I found it reboots in the middle of the day once or twice a week.

Are there any logs I can confirm when this is rebooting exactly, and any know causes? I havent changed any hardware nor upgraded software

Build FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201503200528
Platform Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5504 @ 2.00GHz
Memory 16345MB
System Time Mon Aug 03 11:53:28 BST 2015
Uptime 11:53AM up 1:35, 0 users
Load Average 0.94, 0.83, 0.75

Thanks id advance

You can figure out when the system last booted from the uptime and the System time. As for what's causing it to reboot, that will require deeper analysis. Take a look at the forum rules to find out what kind of information is expected in a situation like this.

As Robert said, let's have the full specs on your system. How much RAM, how many drives, what capacities, what types, in what configurations, etc.

You may finds logs of interest in /var/log/messages or /var/log/dmesg.today. If you find anything interesting in there, share it with us for an analysis.

Also, a randomly rebooting FreeNAS box usually (not always) boils down to one of several possibilities:
  • Bad piece of hardware (RAM, power supply, something plugged into a card slot, are common) --this is the case about 85% of the time
  • Problems with the line power
  • Some kind of problem with the watchdog service
  • Thermal issue
  • Corrupted operating system
  • PEBKAC
The FreeBSD/FreeNAS operating system is megastable, so a rebooting situation almost always is indicative of some external issue.

The IPMI log, if one exists, might also help to quickly identify a number of hardware issues.
