That's pretty god damn sweet. That will save about 20 thousand boneheads per year that incorrectly use the FreeNAS product and wind up with configurations that are unsustainable. :)

First implementation seems to be for stripes and possibly mirrors only.
RAID-Z{1-3} look like it will take more time.

For various people's information. At one time, you could not remove
a L2ARC cache device or SLOG device. Solaris eventually added that
feature.

I think the most important feature to have now is to be able to remove a single striped drive to an existing RAID-Zx because it's the big mistake people do 99% of the time. So, as it's a stripe, this implementation will be ok, or not?

So far, it only works if all vdevs are individual disks, so it's still rather experimental/academic.
