Now that my media server is up and running well I would like to open HTPC to the Web so I can access remotely. Being a newbie with a lot invested I want to proceed cautiously. Could someone point me in the right direction and I will go from there.

Could you be a little clearer on what you are trying to do? I'm guessing you want access to your media from everywhere, so I'll suggest you run Plex in a jail. If you are looking to manage your freenas from anywhere, I would suggest looking into setting up a VPN (or possibly SSH tunneling).

Hi depasseg,
Sorry for not being clear. I do have Emby up and running but I'm not able to stream due to a slow internet connection. My goal is to just access my HTPC Manager jail to check my plugins and on occasion add a movie (couchpotato) or series (sickrage). Would SSH tunneling allow me to see the UI?

This is what plex handles very well. it can transcode to a lesser bitrate to enable streaming over slower links.

Yes, you will need to enable fowarding in your ssh config (as well as port forwording on your router).

you could use ssh tunneling to access anything in your network. you could also port forward a port to htpc-manager to access only it outside your network without the overhead of the ssh tunnel.
