I installed FreeNAS onto two USB drives, and I'm attempting to access the web interface after system start up.

From my research, I should expect to be given a URL to access the web interface:

However I don't get such a URL after I boot up:

This has left me really unsure how to proceed. I tried ifconfig -a and I get more than lo0.

Anyone have any ideas?

Are you expecting igb0 and/or igb1 to work? "status: no carrier" usually is shown if no cable is plugged into the card. At least check your cables.

I have five ports on my board: 2 x gigabit, 2 x gbe, 1 x IPMI. I already have the IPMI plugged in. If I try to plug in another cable aside from the IPMI, then the board is power cycling on boot.

Unusual beahviour. About which motherboard do we talk about?

I go from initializing IPMI to initializing OOB and then it restarts. I don't get to the point I could select a boot medium or enter the bios.

I have the same board. It works fine for me

See this post

If you have your BIOS set on defaults, and you plug a single cable into E/Lan Port 1, then you should both get the FreeNAS management console, and also the IPMI management on that single cable.

(there is a BIOS setting for IPMI failover to Lan Port 1)

You will NOT get FreeNAS access if you only have a network cable plugged into the IPMI port.

If you want to use 10gbe, you have to plugin to F or G port 4 or 3, and either a cable into E or A to get IPMI.

You could try resetting your BIOS to defaults, and reconfiguring, I have a post for that too ;)

You could also try updating your BIOS (post)

If that doesn't work, then perhaps you have a hardware or network issue :(

Just to be clear, this is your problem--if the system isn't plugged into the network (and if only the IPMI port is plugged in, the system isn't on the network), you can't expect it to pick up an IP address. If the board is going into a boot loop and not even reaching the POST screen when you plug in a LAN cable, that sounds like a hardware problem. Aside from what @Stux posted, simple things to try would include using a different LAN cable, plugging it into a different port on the motherboard, or plugging it into a different port on the switch.

I have the same hardware as @Stux except I shucked Reds from EasyStore and I'm using a 500GB 960 Evo. I even got the same case. I'm hoping to eventually mirror his build as a learning experience, but I don't want to get too ahead of myself.

I found that I could get the URL and log into the web interface if I didn't use the IPMI LAN port at all. I can get both IPMI and the URL after ensuring the cable was plugged into LAN port 1. However this leaves me a bit confused on why have the IPMI port separate, and if this is something I should be concerned about going forward.
