Moving over a RAID 5 storage from a different machine

I broke down and built out a FreeNAS server because I wanted a more enterprise feel to my home network. My question I hope is a simple one. I have OpenMediaVault as my current NAS device and I am trying to decom it and go to FreeNAS.

Currently I have a USB NAS with 4 hard drives in it. It is set to RAID 5 and it is a software based RAID not hardware based.

Is it at all possible to unplug the USB NAS from OMV and plug it into my FREENAS box and host files from FreeNAS without losing my data?

In a word, no. You would have to put your data in a temporary location before re-using the disks.

So one more try. Can i use a external usb nas and plug it into freenas?
