BUILD I can haz NAS Plexserver

Hello,

I am now lurking some time here and have finally decided to build my first NAS.

The NAS is mostly for Storage and i want it to handle 1-2 HD Streams via Plex with transcoding but i maybe want to run Couch Potato and other Plugins later.
These are so far my parts, any feedback or parts recommandations are greatly appreciated.
I wouldn't mind the cost going a bit down but als tried to keep it upgradable.
I live in Switzerland and it was pretty hard to find a reasonable priced ECC Ram which wasn't Kingston.

Also i was wondering if could set Ubuntu as second OS and throw in a ATI HD5570
which i have laying around for small gaming,watching movies and browsing the web.
Is there any big diffrence between USB2.0 and 3.0 as boot drive?

USB 2.0 is fine for the boot drive, especially since USB 3.0 is disabled at the moment.

There is no reasonable way (nor is there a valid reason) to want to dual boot anything on the server, so that idea isn't going far.

Otherwise, everything seems fine. I'd definitely go with a new PSU. Check if you can't find a Seasonic G-550 for a similar price, since it's a fair bit better and the Corsair seems somewhat overpriced compared to what's normal.

I might wanna connect might up to 4-6 HDDs so it should be future proof.
These are a bit cheaper than the Corsair can you recommend one?

The Corsair might be a better option than the Fractal or the Bronze Seasonics. The Seasonics might have slightly better components, but not enough to warrant dropping to Bronze, and the Corsair is fine- not the best, but fine.

No, FreeNAS only provides a command line console.

Remember that Plex won't do HW assisted encoding, so QuickSync won't help now. Who knows about the future though.
Should still be enough to get OK performance when encoding.

Do you have a current NAS?
If not, don't underestimate the amount your data usage will increase when you get one.
1.7TB useable isn't going to last long, and it isn't that easy to just add capacity without wasting a lot to redundancy (if you keep adding mirrors for example).
