Hi!
I have a HP ML 150 G3, and I want to make a NAS, with FreeNAS.
My idea is using RaidZ2 - 3TB x 6 = 18Tb (12 Tb usable space)

Is the server ready for this config, like the raid controller?
8Gb of RAM is sufficient for maximum of 3 active users?
Should I buy another NIC?

Thanks :)

Can you list the actual hardware for us? It is hard to find which HP ML 150 G3 you have, and how it is configured.

It seems the RAID-controller does not supports large disks. Taken from HP Bullentin:
  • Internal SAS storage capacity of up to 1.8TB (6 x 300GB SAS drives)
  • Internal SATA storage capacity of up to 4.5TB (6 x 750GB SATA drives)
It also says maximum logical drive is 2 TB (no 48 bit LBA).

Mer information here. Could work with a cheap PCI-X SATA/SAS-controller maybe. It has maximum memory of 8 GB which is okay i guess, but more would be nice also.
