You don't. If you want to install software you do it in a jail.

Based on your question from your other thread it sounds like you should invest in some sort of edge protection device.

Installing fail2ban in a jail almost certainly cannot accomplish what you wish, by the way.

FreeNAS is an appliance; one does not install software into it. As Jailer said, you can create jails, and install software into those, but for something like fail2ban, these are probably not the droids you're looking for.

As @Jailer said, you need to protect at the network edge, more than likely.

You know there are more options out there than that shitty consumer crapbox, right?
Yes... it just i don't have much budget at the moment as finished my new personal rig and my nas. Have authentication key so i should be fine, should i change these keys every month? . Is getting ubiquiti router lite a much better option?

Got $18.00 to spare? These are the "B1" revisions (at least that is what the seller told me). They can be flashed with either OpenWRT or DDWRT. While I don't think that there are any Fail2Ban packages available for either, you *maybe* can do something like this on OpenWRT. *** I have not tried, so take it merely as a suggestion...
