Hello anyone who is willing to listen,

HDHomeRun just announced a DVR that runs on your NAS or computer and supports playback to many devices and OS, even with protected content. They announced it here as a kickstarter campaign which I'm certain will be easily overfunded:
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1275320038/hdhomerun-dvr-the-dvr-re-imagined?ref=nav_search

Here are the platforms they support for the DVR portion:
Windows
Mac
Linux
Western Digital MyCloud NAS products
QNAP NAS products

Then they say: "We are evaluating other NAS products and hope to expand the NAS lineup. If you are a NAS vendor please contact us!"

iXsystems please contact them! They say they want to offer it on FreeNAS in the Q/A section!

They don't need us. What they need is to make it work on FreeBSD. That will provide support for FreeBSD jails, which will work on FreeNAS.

There is no need to contact us. They need to contact FreeBSD.

Makes sense. Of course, I must agree.

Down the road if they do offer support for FreeBSD it would be nice to have it added to the packaging system menu (I forget what it's called) like Plex is. Not sure what the mechanism is for that.

That's a plugin, and those are handled by community members. So again, still not iX's realm.

The process should be something along the lines of:

1. Program is developed for FreeBSD.
2. Some community member decides to take up the responsibility of making the plugin. They develop the plugin and provide it to iXsystems, which hosts it on the appcafe or whatever the heck its called.
3. Profit!!!

I have some contacts for anyone interested in talking to the SiliconDust team if you would like to work on a plugin.
