I am going to begin some upgrades (Memory and Hard Disks) and want some opinions on drives. I currently use 2TB Western Digital Red drive and before I go out and buy another 8, I want to hear what others have used without problems.

I don't want to go the pricey route of enterprise grade drives, and I don't want to go the green route, so how about the Barracuda's, WD Black, or Hitachi drives? How to they hold up? The WD RED drives tend to be a bit more expensive per GB compared to these desktop grade drives. Saving a few bucks would be nice if possible.

dont get drives that are 7200rpm, those blacks, barracudas are, its either wd greens, reds or seagate counterparts, i personally would get all the same drives if your buying 8 and you have a red so you should stick to them, they have an extra year warranty also.

since you dont want to go the green route you dont really have a choice.

I use WD Reds. They're great and I bought them pretty much at same price as non-red ones (I think it was around 43-45 cents/GB). You just need to be on the lookout for deals.

What is it about the 7200 RPM drives that makes you say stay away from them? I have 4 of the WD Red's already, and have no issues continuing with another 8 of them. Just looking for other opinions. The greens - I've head all of the horror stories about using them in RAID, the lack of TLER (or similar technology from the other manufacturers), over heating and so on which is why I want to steer clear of them
