Still new to Truenas so this is an ongoing learning experience.
Has a 4 TB drive that was filling up with data. Had to increase the space available as the existing infrastructure that had my additional data on (external drive) was no longer going to be available to me.
Due to cost and availability I could only get 1 additional 4 TB drive. Installed drive and added data vdev to the existing pool to expand capacity.
Before I could start copying additional data to the pool the new drive started giving errors. Did troubleshooting to eliminate SATA cable or port issues.
Current situation is that BIOS is reporting the drive as bad, and on boot Truenas is not booting through as it is continually trying to read the faulty drive sectors.
If I remove the drive it boots up but then the pool is not available so I cannot access it. (As far as I can see with my very limited knowledge)
I have 2 questions.
1) Is there a way I can access the data on the initial drive that is still functioning?
2) I'm waiting for the faulty disk to be replaced via RMA. When I get it back can I just install it again a boot up normally and will Truenas automatically pick it up or is there additional steps I need to take?
PS I know I broke the first rule of not having backups, but had no other option at that stage.
