greetings folks, i was wondering is there noway to create a "consortium" styled standard for support of all type of chipsets on all controllers? i bring this up because at one point i had bought a "Supermicro PCI Express x4 Low Profile SAS RAID Controller (AOC-SASLP-MV8)" based on Marvel. The sad thing is after touching base with both marvel AND Supermicro - neither were sure of its support despite having almost all other variations of the same chipset!

i ended going with the simpler and cheaper "Syba SD-SATA-4P Serial ATA150 4x Ports RAID Controller Card with SIL3114 Chipset" which worked out of the box.

I am not really raising a grievance here about a 100 USD card - i can always sell this - but the idea in general is to have a framework of some kind like HTML or or WYSEWIG or ISO.

Is there a driver support roadmap for such things?? cheers and keep up the phenomenal work you folks do!

Short answer: No. If it were as easy as you think it would have already been done.

Long answer: With infinite programming resources, it's possible. But there isn't infinite programming resources, so see above. :)
