Hi,

I currently have my NAS running EON (an openindiana solaris distribution). If I want to switch to freeNAS, can I just 'zpool import' my existing pools in? I'm not exactly sure the relationship between ZFS and openZFS, and how the zfs pool version relates, etc.

Thanks,

pete

First, you don't use the CLI except for troubleshooting. To import a pool you use the WebGUI and our manual that explains how to do it.

With regards to importing pools from elsewhere, technically it should work, but it's not recommended. We've had people take pools from Linux and Solaris and have had problems. My recommendation would me to make a new pool on your FreeNAS box and ZFS send from the current pool to the new pool (or copy the data however you see fit).
