Fairly soon, I'm going to migrate a file archive that's currently on an NTFS system to a FreeNAS ZFS machine.
Many of the files will have Japanese characters in their names.
On the Windows systems these files are currently on, it's not been a huge problem, but occasionally there was some weirdness with characters being replaced by empty (ASCII) blocks, and several pieces of software either not displaying the filenames correctly, or not being able to hande the files at all. That was all in software though, and had nothing to do with the filesystem. I'm expecting the same (non-)issues when the files are being served from a FreeNAS ZFS system.
However, is there anything I should know about ZFS itself (and/or FreeNAS) and the handling of Japanese characters in file names?
