Application besides browser to access truenas?

Wondering if there is a standalone application to use to access truenas.
I have an enterprise grade server I would like to access from a linux based operating system
At the moment my browser must be reconfigured to access the truenas system, then reconfigured to browse the internet.
I cannot do both at the same time, and each time all my browser settings must be reconfigured.
I dont like using the browser.

That’s a bit of a bizarre statement… Browsers have become the de facto universal runtime environment, even for things like entry-level IDEs and collaboration tools.

To address your immediate pain point, Firefox allows you to have multiple independent profiles, which can take different settings. E.g. I have one setup to access stuff on a remote server via an SSH tunnel with a SOCKS5 proxy.

That said… I’m not convinced this is not a misconfigured network. Your description is rather vague, but I can’t imagine a scenario like yours arising from any sensible requirements. Care to share some details?

that standard is lazy programmers syndrome, using application for what was never designed for.
I will look into profiling but think i will still not be able to use at same time without switching profiles.
my server is on local intranet, I have console but prefer different workstation to access.
my sensible requirements are to use proxy and vpn on browser at same time use local intranet.
forced to use browser so same settings are not compatible. loopbacks are security risk.
also must setup firewall rules, much more difficult using same application for different reasons.
almost better to install different browser like opera and lock it to local network only.

this is mess. thank you for help but can you please if truenas has standalone application or another way to access outside of browser?

that standard is lazy programmers syndrome, using application for what was never designed for.

The time to make that argument was twenty to thirty years ago, before people started abusing Adobe Flash and Java to make their applications work, and, indeed, before the advent of NAT on the Internet, which is where things really all started going to shit as end-to-end communications was broken by the advent of NAT, forcing desperation moves. That, coupled with moron grade IT administrators whose hamfisted application of firewalls would often prevent anything but :80 and :443 through the firewall, all worked together to create this craptacular environment we're all suffering with today. (I'm kinda watching dumb talk on NANOG about related issues so if I seem a bit more fiery than normal, that's just my annoyance with the whole state of affairs.)

In the meantime, you're in luck! TrueNAS does actually support API access, so you can manage the system in whatever manner you find convenient.

I used to complain about browser-based stuff... But honestly, I find it hard to complain these days, as a user. (As a dev, JavaScript can go die in a fire as far as I care, and the dominance of Chromium is bad for everyone as IE6 showed us)

Anyway, network-wise...
my sensible requirements are to use proxy and vpn on browser at same time use local intranet
Maybe a high-level network map would help visualize what's going on. If I understand you correctly, your workstation and the server are on the same network, and you have a VPN running with an endpoint on the workstation to some far-away land? If so, setting routes to the local network to bypass the VPN seems like the simple solution, along with the equivalent for the proxy.

agreed nat very bad for security. flash is dead, and i block as much J script possible and still work. good to know API available, now find my application ;)
I dont know true command.i will read some.
browser outgrow its use by treating it like general application, too messy. unity game engine worst thing ever happen to video games. long ago if want video game programmer much struggle, long time, hard work, very nice result. with unity good idea for game but programmer bad, result bad game. many bad game. unity also leak all information to dev. bad security.
this network very simple. multiple workstations on intranet, parallel with enterprise grade server, some switches and iot back to router out to gateway. no far away land. all onsite. very simple.
soon migrate to central hardware firewall but now must control each. very difficult. ip cameras leak badly to... unfriendly place for example
