has anyone managed to get Active Directory setup with FreeNAS 9.1

I looked at the docs and posts on the forums - still can connect to FreeNAS shares from AD

is there a Step-by-Step that works ?

I've tried various configs for the last couple of days - NO LUCK !

BTW: Anyway to check the service is running ?

If I make change it simply says "Active Directory Successfully Updated"

Without a configuration setup and the resulting errors, we can't really help.

ok here goes:

Domain Name DNS/Realm: itr.mydomain.com
NetBIOS Name: freenas2
Workgroup Name: ITR
Administrator Name: administrator
Domain Controller: 192.168.2.100 (also tried itr.mydomain.com and ITR)
Click Save and get a message Active Directory Successfully updated

Can't tell if there is an error or service is now running

From the domain controller logged in as Administrator browsing to \\freenas2 or \\192.168.2.\210 its IP - message windows cannot connect to

I haven't successfully gotten this to work either, but for your test, have you tried the, I think it is, wbinfo -u, then wbinfo -g, then wbinfo -t? first should return a list of domain users, second should return a list of domain groups, third is a test to see if the security between the freenas box and the domain computer object is successful. (best I understand it and currently remember it)

Have you setup user rights on the volume and a cfis share yet?

Edit: the wbinfo commands should be done at the cli. there is somewhat of a web interface to try that, but I turned on ssh and connected using putty and checked things that way. Not sure how familiar you are with nix cli.

I think you have here various things mixed. Can you please post a picture where you set it so?

Having the same issue with beta 9.21; I'm running the .img on a thumb drive.

Here is the error that's thrown when I run thru the steps:

Welcome to FreeNAS
[root@filer] ~# sqlite /data/freenas-v1.db "update services_services set srv_enable = 1 where srv_service = 'directoryservice'"
CORRECT>sqlite3 /data/freenas-v1.db "update services_services set srv_enable = 1 where srv_service = 'directoryservice'" (y|n|e|a)? yes

[root@filer] ~# service ix-pam start
[root@filer] ~# service ix-nsswitch start
[root@filer] ~# service ix-samba start
[root@filer] ~# service ix-activedirectory start
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/samba_server: WARNING: $winbindd_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
winbindd not running? (check /var/run/samba/winbindd.pid).
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/samba_server: WARNING: $smbd_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
smbd not running? (check /var/run/samba/smbd.pid).
/usr/local/etc/rc.d/samba_server: WARNING: $nmbd_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
nmbd not running? (check /var/run/samba/nmbd.pid).
Error: database is locked
False

When I use net ads join -U I seem to be able to join fine; checking the DC logs shows all of the kerberos events. That's not the case when I try to enable directory services via the gui or the steps above.
Thanks in advance.

I've pulled hair out trying to get FreeNAS to integrate with active directory, but now that I've got it down I documented it in a post here.

Hope this help!

I had issues with this also.

I found that you need to tick a few boxes in the advance menu sorted it out for me. The blacked out lines are the boxes i added config to. The ones highlighted are those I added in the advance menu.
