Please forgive the very basic nature of this post, but I have never considered using FeeeNAS before.

I assume that program is suitable for my needs. I intend using it for a small office consisting of 2 Windows XP PC's and the FreeNAS machine. The FreeNAS will be used solely for file sharing.

I know about the hardware requirements and there is already a router with DHCP.

What is not clear from the instructions, how-to's, etc is whether windows is required on the FreeNAS?

FreeNAS is its own operating system which is managed using a web browser. The browser can be run from any operating system.

To expand on that, you will need a DEDICATED machine for FreeNAS. Do not attempt to run this on a machine that already has data on it, if you value that data.
