10gb switch advice

Hello, i need help choosing switch for my home network. It will be on 24/7 so noise and powe consumption is definitely a concern. I would like sub 80w, layer 3, min 24 1gb non-poe ports and 4 sfp+ 10gb.
My concern is packet drops from 10gb to 1gb link. Whats the proper sized buffer to sustain microburst while not adding much latency? The Cisco n3k 3048 have 9mb shared while juniper ex3300 1.5/3mb.
So far i have considered Juniper ex3300, Cisco n3k 3048tp, Brocade icx6450. Anything to look for, maybe something from Aruba/HPE?
Any advice highly appreciated.

I wouldn't worry too much about buffer sizing. Probably the only thing that's worth checking is to ensure that the entire port buffer is available by default. Some switch OSs assume diffserv will be used and split the port buffer over all 8 queues by default. So you only ever end up using 1/8 of the available buffer space if you don't do QoS and use switch defaults.

The Junipers were slightly less noisy than a hovercraft last I heard one.. We use Cisco and Dell/Force10 at $dayjob. They're not overly loud, especially the Nseries.

I personally have a 2960X at home and it's fine for my needs, but it only has 2 10G ports.. I have a separate UBNT Edgeswitch 16XG for my 10G devices..

Some have posted on here about other low cost ebay options as well, you might search some of the back posts for more details.

There are several options if you don't need high density 10G. I am going to contradict the previous poster and say that any of the Cisco Nexus switches have fans that are loud, high pitched, and terribly annoying. I work for a Cisco partner, and noise is the reason I don't have those kind of switches in my home office/lab. Several forum members have found some good deals.

@danb35 found this https://www.neobits.com/mikrotik_crs305_1g_4s_in_cloud_router_switch_305_p13384368.html
@Chris Moore found this https://www.ebay.com/itm/Aruba-Netw...-100-1000-Mobility-Access-Switch/132135155050

I have an HP 5820X which is really a re-badged H3C. It has higher 10G density than you want, but it is tolerable to have in my office. That is a primarily 10G switch (14 SFP+ ports, 4 10/100/1000 TP), but I think there are other variants. Most of the HP/H3C ones don't come with power supplies, so factor that into your budget if you go that way.

Dell X1052 fits this. Or a (used) Dell 5524 linked to the Mikrotik unit @Elliot Dierksen mentions. Or, I guess, two 5524s stacked. I'm using one 5524P and one X1052 right now, and have a Mikrotik on order.

One I have been keeping an eye one is this one:

https://www.fs.com/products/72944.html

24x1Gb, 4xSFP+, fan less, 21W Max, redundant PS, $279 USD

I don't have one as I'm still using PtP with DAC, but it would be tough to beat the specs at that price.

Thank you all for suggestions, i did some research. Im sure that mikrotik switches are good but i have heard they arent that great with layer 3 stuff. Unfortunately there isnt much people with fs switches and just the fact that there are many post from sales rep shill them on many forums, discorugages me.

Ill probably pick up cisco 3048. It has 10gb Trident+ ASIC and reasonable power. Only concern is fan noise which i hope can be solved
with sanyo fan replacement or resistor and also fw upgrade path.

I didn't word that very clearly, I meant the Dell/F10 N series was fairly quiet. I agree Cisco's datacenter stuff.. isn't.

I'm in a similar situation to where the OP was back in January, except that my switch and server live in a room in the basement, so fan noise is no concern. I've found good deals on the Dell 5524 ($83 - 2 SFP+), Cisco WS-C4948E ($125 - 4 SFP+), and the Aruba S2500 that Chris Moore found on eBay ($129 - 4 SFP+). I really only NEED 2 ports right now, but I probably said the same thing about 1GbE a few years ago. I don't think I need Layer 3 switching (do I?), and I really don't know enough about the differences between these (or anything else available) to make a rational decision. Is this just a case of, "any of those will work fine," and I'm overthinking it?
