should I update the btsync plugin to 2.0 from 1.4.111?

bittorrent just released this update to start monetizing btsync. the main thing people complain about is the arbitrary limit of only syncing 10 folders or less.

people seem pissed on the btsync forum because then helped test btsync 2.0 but didn't receive a discount on the $40/year pro account.

I'd leave it as is. As long as there isn't any security vulnerabilities that need patching or must have features added there is no need to update it.

Yeah, leave it 1.4.111, because, if someone update to 2.0, there is no back, and the 2.0 is not compatible with 1.4, the folder not syncing, and this is for most people big problem, like me, now. I have updated on my mobiles, and now, not able to sync anymore with 1.4 on my FreeNAS. And this is terrible. I have more the 50 folders in sync, maybe more then 20 mobiles, from my familys mobiles, PC, and now, if update to 2.0, all is gone, and must start from scratch, with only 10 folders. Realy, not upgrade it!

One more reason to move fully to SyncThing.

Thanks

Android users, here is the 1.4.65.0 apk that I extracted from my TiBu backup.

I had no idea about the $$ thing. I'd switch to Syncthing if they had the capability to do a one-way camera backup, i.e. backup>delete from phone>photos stay on backup without being deleted.

No, this isn't accurate. 2.0 BT Sync can sync with 1.4. I'm doing it now until I can get BTSync 2.0 on FreeNAS.

If you don't want to pay for the features in 2.0 or can't untangle the corner you've painted yourself into with the structure of your shares in BTSync, it doesn't seem to matter if your devices are running on BTS 2 or not. They show up as legacy 1.4 shares until all peers are upgraded but otherwise that's the only issue. No functionality is lost either they all seem to do full sync, but you can't do the browse/selective thing with non-2.0 shares.

I'm really happy with BTSync because it handles OS X metadata properly. When I evaluated SyncThing originally it didn't and blew away metadata on files that were sync'ed even from systems where it was native (i.e. HFS+ metadata was fine on HFS+ and ZFS on Workstation1, Workstation2, and my FreeNAS on ZFS with BTSync, but SyncThing would nuke the metadata on the NAS, Workstation1 and Workstation2 even if it was written and saved from Workstation1 or Workstation2.)

Why not offering a btsync 2.0 jail additional to the 1.4 jail? So people can choose?

I am very curious how you did this, because my links generated with the v2 phone app won't work with the v1.4 plugin.

Well, since you are using links I'm not surprised it isn't working for you. Have you considered trying what the documentation suggests?

I'm using keys.

BTW I will try updating the plugin to 2.x this weekend. if you want to stick with 1.4 you just need to not click the update button. also the older pbi will still be available from download.freenas.org

Cool! I'd like to go with 2.0 as well because I'd like some of the features. I haven't beta tested so I'm ready to pay for the pro license (spreads across my devices I understand so at least I buy just one)

It just doesn't make any sense to pay an annual fee to host Your files on Your Own freenas.

By turning it into a paid service, BTsync is stating that simply do not want people to use it on freenas. I believe it is now a matter of time to BTSync vanish from freenas/home servers.

You only have to pay if you need more than 10 shares (not folders, a share can have as many sub-folders as you like). I'd like to have the certificates rather than keys. Also, Syncthing is no alternative for the time being, it still seems pretty shaky to me...
Redundant discussion anyway - the old plugin will still be available to those who need it.

I would not go near to BTsync 2.0 because their stupid folder limmitations! I think BTSync should be En-Of-Life as they break their promices that all 1.4.x features would bee free in version 2.0. BTSync needs to be replaced! Never trus BTSync team !!

Mine still works. My iphone client is 2.0.26.13 and the server is still 1.4.110

I haven't bothered to try and make it work again. I didn't want to trust a thing that has it's main function fail after an update.
