Changing the Default Shell

The default shell for an account is the environment that user accesses in a local or SSH session. The default shell for a new installation is zsh. You can change the default shell in Accounts > Users. Click for the root user and click Edit. Choose the desired shell from the Shell dropdown list and click SAVE. Shell options are:

Shell Screen

SCALE System Settings > Shell is convenient for running command lines tools, configuring different system settings, or finding log files and debug information. When the user Shell setting is set to TrueNAS CLI, the Shell screen opens at the TrueNAS CLI prompt. Figure 1: Shell Screen The Set font size slider adjusts the Shell displayed text size. Restore Default resets the font size to default. The Shell stores the command history for the current session.

Using Shell

The supported mechanisms for making configuration changes are the TrueNAS WebUI, CLI, and API exclusively. All other are not supported and result in undefined behavior that can result in system failure! Figure 1: Shell Screen The Set font size slider adjusts the Shell displayed text size.
