So smbd crashed on me and I want to monitor the box in detail with my existing xymon server. I downloaded the client package, installed via the 'pkg' command, though the changes disappear upon reboot.

From what I can tell the startup script is in etc/local/rc.d and I need a rc.conf entry.

Do I simply make these changes to the files in /conf or something else? The program itself is under /usr/local and seems to survive a reboot.

Thanks

Anything installed on the base OS will not survive a reboot or update. You'll be better off monitoring the Samba process using the built-in SNMP agent.
