Got a link to the adapter you bought on Amazon, Newegg, etc?
Checking my Amazon order history, it even tells me how long I've had it, 11 months. Here is the link;

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ECQZM1A/?tag=ozlp-20

Note that I bought the USB 3.0 with pass-through USB 3.0 port. That page has several models, including a
USB 2.0, USB 3.0 without pass-through and a Thunderbolt one.

Last, I use my netbook as my main home PC, with this USB 3.0 to 1Gbps Ethernet adapter. Generally works great,
(until I upgrade the Linux kernel and have to tweek something).

Unfortunately my laptop is limited to USB2, otherwise this seems like a valid option.
