Ran the updater through the GUI and now most of my windows boxes can't see the FreeNas..
they are able to ping it though.
several of them are fine, but most of them won't connect.

all of the apples and unix machines using AFP and NFS are working fine it's just the Windows ones that are having problems

I was having trouble getting windows to connect with a new install of 8.0.4. I went through all the CIFS settings, including host name etc. In my case I found that the CIFS service was turned off, even after setting up a user, share, setting permissions and finally rebooting.

Perhaps going through those settings and re-saving them would help.

Cheers

I have a new HP Proliant N40L which I put 8.0.4 on, followed all the directions (created volume, created user, set permissions on volume, set sharing, and turned on CIFs), and I cannot see the server from a Win 7 or Win Vista machine. I deleted everything and started from scratch twice, so, I am making the same mistake over and over, or something is wrong. Thoughts? Thanks!

I have to cycle the CIFS service on/off when i reboot or my windows boxes can't access the freenas box.
