Supermicro spec page says its supported but the max tdp of the motherboard is higher then the cpu tdp. Will this cause problems?

  1. Where are you getting the motherboard's maximum supported CPU TDP from?
  2. Why would it be a problem if the board is capable of a higher TDP than the CPU?

The 1285 v4 is listed as having a 95 watt TDP.

https://ark.intel.com/content/www/u...n-processor-e3-1285-v4-6m-cache-3-50-ghz.html

Supermicro's web page shows the X10SLH-F motherboard supports CPU's with up to 85 watt TDP.

CPU
  • Intel® 4th Generation Core i3 series, Intel® Celeron®, Intel® Pentium®v, Intel® Xeon® processor E3-1200 v3, Intel® Xeon® Processor E3-1200 v4 series
  • Single Socket LGA-1150 (Socket H3) supported, CPU TDP supports Up to 85W TDP

So to answer your question is appears that no, the X10SLH-F will not support the Xeon 1285 v4 CPU.

Since you weren't very specific about the CPU you want to use, the answer is "maybe".

There are two CPUs with "1285" and "v4" in their names: E3-1285 v4 and E3-1285L v4

Benchmarks show they are pretty much identical in performance, but the "L" variant has only a 65W TDP rating, so it should work. Based on a quick eBay search, the prices are similar, with the "L" variant slightly cheaper.
