I have a guy selling an older gaming computer specs are.

AMD 4300 quad core processs 3.8 ghz with 8 gig ram.

pretty much anything *can* work, but that doesn't mean you should use it. members of this forum *highly* discourage desktop bits, and for a reason. support in the forums is sporadic at best for any setup that ignores that advice, as many of those who can help the most consider it a waste of their *free* time when you're only asking for their help after disregarding their recommendations.
also that hardware is...kind of old.

Sorry to hear you're having trouble. Please take a few moments to review the Forum Rules, conveniently linked at the top of every page in red, and pay particular attention to the section on how to formulate a useful problem report, especially including a detailed description of your hardware.

Without this, You've basically given no one anything to work with, so the responses will tend to be random guesses rather than anything useful.

I highly recommend, and use, disklist.pl. it shows all the disks in one nice table (its basically 8 commands in one)
(this line requires root)

wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/nephri/FreeNas-DiskList/master/disklist.pl -O /usr/bin/disklist 2> /dev/null 1> /dev/null;chmod 755 /usr/bin/disklist

then you can:sudo disklist
or for everything:sudo disklist -smartctl -all
or CSV: sudo disklist -o:csv -smartctl -all | awk -F\; '{$1=$1} 1' OFS=, (the author thinks a CSV is semi-colon separated for some reason *shrugs*)
the webUI has improved but it still comes nowhere close the same, concise, layout of info that disklist.pl does.
I find it makes it so much easier to see which gptid is which /dev/ is which serial, and smart info, poweronhours, temp all in once is so convenient.
