Hi, I am new here and wish to build a NAS system for HTPC media.
I have 8 hard drives with media currently connected via usb in two "Pro media box" but I wish to go with NAS since I want to access media from another HTPC. I have read the guidelines here and having in mind the price I have found this mobo:
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157419
Question: Will this mobo work with FreeNAS well to stream media files including 4K format?
Please help me out to start from somewhere.

Streaming, yes. Transcoding, no.

Also, keep in mind that those boards are the victims of a rather nasty bug that kills them after a few months of use. If you buy one, search the forum for instructions on what to do.

If you plan on just storing your media on your Nas and then transcoding it on your htpc's then you don't really need to much horsepower. Check out the hardware sticky for more info.

Thank you guys for the fast replies. What kind of bug, what to search for please?
Yes, the NAS will be only as storage the media will be played by the HTPC.

Just search that board on the freenas forums. It was fixed though with a combination of bios fix and freenas fix i think. Something about watchdog causing flash to wearout and brick the board.

I see there are tons of problems with this mobo. Thank you for pointing the issue to me.
Is there another mobo reliable with at least 10 sata and possibly with the CPU on board? I am trying to keep the costs down of course.
