I have an older Xeon based WHS mediaserver, looking to build new primarily so I can migrate data and keep backup hardware for tinkering. Looking for feedback on components / options:

Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1245 v5 SkyLake 3.5Ghz
Mobo:
Option 1:
Supermicro X11SSH-CTF with integrated LSI 3008 with 8xSAS connectors
Option 2: Supermicro X11SSH-F-O with IBM M1015 + HP SAS Expander
Memory: Samsugn 16gb 288-pin DDR4 ECC x4
Case: I have a Norco 4224 with a Corsair PSU ... would like to jump to a Supermicro case but unsure if Option 1 with SAS3 will work with used Supermicro case with SAS2 backplane
HDD: 8xWD Red 3TB (Current server) + 8x WD Red 6TB (new, already purchased)

Main questions are the motherboard options, not sure integrated LSI 3008 is the way to go or not. Also not sure what my case options are or if I should just stick with the Norco.

I personally like the X11SSH-F-O board and using an M1015 in IT mode. The reason is if the motherboard died, you still have the M1015. Not sure that makes things easier at all.

It does... $200+ cheaper and I have the M1015 and HP SAS Expander already.

i recently upgraded to skylake MB and CPU for my backup and am planning to do primary in due course. Second the choice for the M1015 and SSH motherboard and CPU combo. maximum RAM = 64Gb which is nice for future growth needs.
