Hi,

I have a FreeNAS build running for some years now. Because there's nearly no space left on the current disks and all slots are used, I want to exchange the existing WD Red 6TB HDs with some current harddisks. Because the WD Reds are only existing up to 10TB capacity I currently prefer Seagate IronWolf Pro harddisks. The 14TB one (ST14000NE0008) seems to be quite nice.

I remember some threads about huge problems with the IronWolfs in combination with FreeNAS. Are these problems solved and can IronWolf harddisks be used without problems with current FreeNAS?

Best regards,

One thing to reduce potential problems, is to drop back one size or generation from the latest. In your case, perhaps using a 12TB disk instead. That's twice what you have now.

Cutting edge sometimes translates to bleeding edge.

As for the Seagate IronWolf, I can't comment. Simply don't know.

I have 36 disks Seagate ST12000NE0007 (IronWolf Pro 12TB) in production for a year. During the first months, everything was OK, but now I have about two fault disk per month. I send back the harddisks to Seagate that returns me new disks, but it is a little worrying to have such a high failure rate.
