Hello Everyone,

I hope someone here can give me a brief recommendation on my home network which I will be setting this up, I have 2 option which not too sure which is better, my main goal is setup a freenas box which attach two iscsi storage and to achieve highest network bandwidth within internal.

Both option setup is on a same freenas box and setup as ZFS
Option 1 - H/W raid controller Adaptec sa2420 + 4 x 500gb hdd 7.2k rpm
Option 2 - M/B raid + 5 x 2tb hdd 7.2k rpm

Network Device
Dell optiplex 755, 1gb nic, cor2duo, 4gb ram - Win2k8 r2
Hp dl365 g5, 1gb dual port, dual cpu, 32gb ram - ESXi5

Please see attached, Both freenas and esxi running dual 1gb port and both device is running in ethernet round-robin, for option 1 above I like to used for lab testing and some test hosting a website, basically whatever test I need, and I am concern about the power usage as if it run 24/7 my electric bill will jump up.
option 2 above I like to setup a share storage within internal network eg, video streaming, file share.

What I have already done, using dell desktop win2k8 initiator to attach option 1 iscsi and I found transfer file across the network was so slow to 15-25mb/s. I haven't setup option 2 yet.

I tried to setup the way more efficient as possible pus saving power, running option 2 share file in 24/7, and also can be turn off esxi server when I don't need.

What is your thought?
Thanks in advance for helping me out.
Steve
