What's the benefit of setting up a Virtual Box?

Hey guys, I'm currently about to set up a NAS for an entire office from a computer they had lying around with 2TB's on it.



I'm trying to get my head wrapped around virtual box.

If I use a virtual box to install the OS on, does that mean I won't need to install the OS on the USB?

(Great, because I know someone in the office will try pulling it out or something.)


I'm still a little confused but I'm continuing to read.

Vitrualbox is a program that gives a "virtual" hardware platform, possibly including virtual disks, for an OS to run on. It requires a fully featured "host" OS to run on, which is a heck of a lot of overhead. If you want decent performance for an office NAS, VirtualBox is NOT the way to go. If you have a budget for your office NAS, try getting a USB DOM instead of using an external flash drive.
