Hi Freenas fans,
I am new to Freenas. Am trying to set up a "simple" owncloud and plex server. I have an MSI E350 IS -E45 motherboard, 8 gig ram and 4 hard drives for experimentation.

Have installed Freenas 11.1 onto a 32 gig lexar USB 3 pendrive, no problem.
I get the menu and the IP for the webgui, on first boot up. Can even access it on first boot up from another computer. The problem is as soon as I power the NAS server down. I can re boot and it looks as if all is working fine, although there is no carrier which pops up and when finished I get the message that the web gui can not be accessed, check connections etc.

I tried to assign the IP statically which looks like it wants to work and it then states that the web gui can be accessed at the address I assigned, but actually when I enter it into the web brower it hangs and eventually timesout...:(. I have tried re installing the freenas a number of times and get the same issue. Tried different LAN ports on the router...no help. I know the cable works as when I boot the computer into ubuntu (take the USB out..) I get internet no problem. Can anyone help? I have included some photos of screen shots.

notice that "re0: state changed to down". I realise this needs to be UP. but no idea how to do this?

Kindest regards,

Your motherboard has a Realtek ethernet chipset, this brand is NOT RECOMMENDED for
use with FreeNAS due to driver issues. If you want to use that board to play with, buy a cheap
Intel PCIe NIC and that should solve the current issue.
Check the forum's Resources section for the Recommended Hardware Guide, it's a great read
for a noobie;)
