How about a GUI-based method to do the recommended burn-in/SMART/etc. testing on new drives? We seem to spend a lot of cycles around here (despite good resources that already explain the process) telling people how to test drives before putting them into production.

Perhaps even integrate this into the create volume and replace disk workflows... you don't have to do the testing, but it asks. If you say yes, it will do the testing and, if everything looks good, go ahead with whatever process you were running.

maybe this is an unrealistic request.

I would like to see a "teamviewer like" function with user/pass, maybe even 2 factor auth. that connects to the new FreeNAS google play store app.

Not a silly mobile web page, but a legit app.

Thanks.

Maybe if possible.

1.management client for VM or Jails, like Vmware or Virtualbox session.

2. More choice for VM with automated create dataset ; template VM

ex :
Create VM :
Zvol name ? - Plex
Zpool choice ? - ZpoolN
Size : 5 Gib
CPU : ...
RAM : ...

3. GUI ergonomy more efficient (i've never work in Corral, i'm newby)
Like Corral, maybe netdata can be integrate in FN interface ?
Beta UI for me as really bad, But Corral was really worth it

4. Backup with option, i can save "User" only, or "System option" and other

i know Freenas is not a supervisor like Proxmox, but Proxmox is more efficient for VM management but less than FN for NAS use and ZFS management

5. 2Authentification really need for freenas ? i don't know, it can be good.

6. Backup solution with pool dedicate (Data/VM, Jail/ etc...)

I would like IPFS for being able to share files easily by just sharing hashes. This would work between all freenas users, so very convenient.

Also, since it's one idea per post I would like to tell how much I loved the CLI in Corral. Very nice.

A Dashboard that shows me all important "healthiness" details:
  • when did the last scrub job run and what was the status and the duration
  • when did the last SMART test run and what was the status --> switch to Detail View: Shows all the details that I could get from the console
  • Easy Log viewer

Yea I agree with this. Sure there are lots of people out there using FreeNAS in home environments but there are a few of us running this at scale in our corporate enterprises and we would be only to happy to support the work you guys do. Perhaps you charge a nominal fee for people like us and although we don't receive support in return as you don't want the conflict with your TrueNAS stuff we are in some sort of corporate FreeNAS club perhaps with a dedicated update train somewhere between TrueNAS and current STABLE?
You can contribute via donations to both FreeNAS and the FreeBSD Foundation. By donating to the FreeBSD Foundation, both FreeNAS and FreeBSD benefit from it. Donations to the FreeBSD Foundation are tax-deductible under US law. I highly recommend you do it. I have donated during 2017 and will again in 2018.

Add complex Samba logging to separate log files (user, IP, what operation).

View UPS status (capacity, remaining time, voltages, current, wattage - if NUT supports the UPS).

Edit: also view connected clients, if FreeNAS is acting as a NUT server.

When I have to replace a drive, make it a gui option to enable/disable the drive bay light so I know which one i have to replace, for now I have to do:

1. sas2ircu 0 display (and proceed to look for it, if I don't find it, I run it again with sas2ircu 1 display, 2, 3 etc)
2. Next I run the command sas2ircu 0 locate 2:14 ON
3. Replace the drive and run sas2ircu 0 locate 2:14 OFF

I've made the first part a little easier by exporting the info every hour to splunk so I can track the drives, models, serial number etc. just gets a little crazy when you have multiple SAS cards and over 144 drives.

That would be nice to have as part of the base build. For now, there's a script that might help.

The option to create a simple user file share that I can pick what files they have access to on an individualized basis. Right now its a bit complex to setup a file share that has different shares based on the user.

Hey Community!

My name is Ben Gadd, and I’m the Engineering Program Manager over here at iX. I wanted to reach out and announce that we want to hear about your ideas that you think can make FreeNAS even better. Go ahead and post an opinion below. Try to limit posts to one idea per post so that we can see what people are voting for.

If you don’t have any ideas, you can still read through the other ideas and give them a thumbs up with the thanks button if you like the idea. The primary goal out of this program is to get as much feedback from the community on new concepts ahead of time, then take that information to the development team here at iX and talk about incorporating some of them into FreeNAS.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Ben have you considered looking at all the "Feature requests : Closed <can't be bothered / delayed / too hard basket / dunno how to do it>" pile on the bug tracker? MANY over the years.
(no, seriously)

I've made a few closed suggestions, I've seen many more. I suspect you may find some stuff there that was actually worth considering.
I myself had to fight to keep one open (luckily it now is)

I would like to see some popular voice communication plugins ex.ventrillo mumble, discord, teamspeak right now you have to create a vm of a windows machine and host from there. would be nice to just start the plugin and have people connect.

This feels like something which should be handled by a robust plugin / jail / docker or VM infrastructure - but the ACTUAL implementation of voice comm plugins, I personally think is an extremely low priority for the core IX staff.
They should be making a powerful, reliable and feature rich system.
