I just upgraded to release 9.3 after experimenting with the previous release. I had two small hard drives which I will continue to use, but I also purchased a WD Red 3TB hdd to add to my system. The question is do I format in windows and perform a firmware update before I add it to the FreeNAS system?

There is no firmware update, AFAIK.

I'll leave the decision of whether to destroy the pool and recreate it up to you.

There is only test data on the two other drives, so the data is not important. So, I can just install / add the new bare hdd and create a new pool?

No, don't format the disk using Windows.

How do you plan to add the disk? You might want to read cyberjock' guide. There's a link to it in his signature.

Ok - I read it a while back, but I will have to go over it again to refresh my memory.

Ok, I scanned through the info, powered the new drive up and got it shared and it is now up and running. The other computers all see it and data transfers are successful. Thanks!
