want to share a file (perhaps a folder) between jail and smb share

I have jail that is intended to run my apps in its crontab as I come up with them. I have one app that updates a spreadsheet that I would like to look at periodically (preferably from my laptop.)
I think I want to keep the jail out of the rest of my filesystem, but sharing a folder or two between TrueNAS and the jail would be OK. Is SMB the way to go or is there an easier way? I tried a symbolic link from TrueNAS to the jail, but I get an error about Cross-device links.

you can mount a dataset from your TN into the jail. It's in the web ui (don't have any jails up right now to check the exact place)

Be aware of Office (particularly excel) file locks... you may find yourself missing the updates from the app if you have it open and locked.
