SOLVED Volume size smaller than expected

My first real question (cracks knuckles)..

I have a volume with four 3TB drives in Raidz1, the volume says 10.9TB is available however the dataset shows only 7.7TB available.
It just seems low for some reason or I had higher expectations.

How can you possibly have 10.9TB available with the equivalent of three pseudo-3TB drives? What's the output of zpool status? I get the feeling they're all striped. Code tags or pastebin please.

I was just starting to do some reading on that.

ITGuy, it'd be helpful if you posted your FreeNAS version--I suspect it's 9.3. I think what's happening in 9.3 is that the "pool" capacity is being reported as the raw size of the pool (i.e., total capacity of all disks), while the "dataset" capacity is net (all disks less parity). If that's what it's doing, your results look right.

Dan, I believe you're right and I am using 9.3
I think also I'm not used to seeing storage in Tib.

I guess I was expecting to see something closer to 9TB usable.
