I have read the forums and watched Lawrance systems video on Vlan and jails and i still can not figure this out.

so.
Here is the setup
UDM Pro 10G copper to my USW-PRO-24-POE Port 26 (ALL)
USW-PRO-24-POE Port 26 fiber to my Truenas Core (cxgb1) (ALL)
UDM Pro port 1 to US-8-60W port 1 (ALL)
US-8-60W port 4 (Vlan 30) to my Truenas core igb0

i have setup a vlan30 on parent igb0
i have then bridged a bridge30 on vlan30
linkstates are up

problem is that when using bridge30 in jails they dont get the tagged vlan address range, they get the main lan range

i have only found 2 ways of getting the vlan30 ip range. One is if I in a virtual machine uses igb0
or if I reinstall the server and dont touch the interfaces because then they are all set to DHCP

then i can use the igb0 in jails and it is working somewhat

why is the jails ignoring the settings ??

How did you configure your jails to use bridge30? Also don't use any untagged configuration on the parent interface igb0. Don't mix tagged and untagged on one port.

just to make sure i understand.

do i have the port in the switch for that igb0 is connected to tagged or not ?

igb0 is only used for jails and VM's i want to connect to vlan30
main connection to server is via 10gig cxgb1

see picture for how i did

that was not done in the Lawrance video i watched

is the problem that i follow a 2020 video ?

Do you want to transport more than one VLAN over the port that connects the switch to igb0? If not then configure the port as an access port in VLAN 30 (i.e. untagged) on the switch and don't bother with VLANs on TrueNAS at all. Simply create a bridge interface like you did with igb0 as the only member, then assign this bridge in the "interfaces" setting of all your jails.

the plan was to have about 4 or 5 different jails on that vlan30
but if it is not possible i still have 3 more unused nics but i would like to only use one if possible

what did i do wrong ??

ahhhh so you want me to set the port on the switch to vlan30 and then in the jails i just point to igb0 ?

yes i have already tagged the port 4 on the switch as vlan30 but truenas somehow still uses the main lan range and not the range in the vlan30 even though the port is locked to vlan30 ! ?

i just dont understand why
