I have just bought a QNAP TR-004 It is a NAS expansion (4Bay) but I am using it as a DAS so it is just connected via USBC.

I formatted the hardrives, Set up Raid 1 so one drive is mirroring another. Then in disk management I had to reformat those drives (EXFAT) so my computer could see them. Dropped in a file and am getting transfer speeds of about 25MB/s.

I am using a USBC-USBC cable, the port is fast on both the PC and the NAS (USB 3.2)

Have I done something wrong? why is is so slow to transfer?

FreeNAS/TrueNAS is designed to have disks attached directly, via SAS or SATA. USB is not well-supported and comes with lots of risks, caveats, and dangers.

I read the original email such that TrueNAS is not in the game at all.
