Hello everyone.

I have built two Nas systems now, both V8.0.
Now I need to upgrade to 8.01. as I need Rsyn and Cron.
I am using using FreeNAS-8.0.1-RC2-amd64-Full_Install.xz.

On the 8.01 system I can not publish any shares.
In fact the Nas is not visible on the LAN.

What step have I missed?

Tutanekai,

Why don't you install the 8.02 Release version instead of RC2? There was a lot of stuff fixed.

What do you mean 'not visible on the LAN", can you ping it, can you see the GUI, or you just can't see the mount point?

How are you trying to share? CIFS, NFS???

Please provide more details.

Thank you for responding.
More details...

Ok. I can Ping the FreeNas and I can access the GUI. With V8.0 I can see a node on the LAN called FreeNas. So I was expecting the same with V8.01 but nothing.
Also, I am trying to provide annomouse access to three drives. Each drive is a CIFS share but nothing is displaied on other PC or in the entire network.
I am happy to go 8.2. Would that be the best solution?

Hi Tutanekai,

I would upgrade to 8.02, but your problem sounds like you don't have the CIFS service turned on. On the left side where all the services are listed, at the top of the list, there is "Control Services". Open that, and all the services will be listed (Again), but there will be a ON/OFF switch next to each one. You need to turn the one on for CIFS. Also, there is a little wrench icon with more settings that you should look at to check the settings. If that fixes your problem, I would save your settings and then upgrade to 8.0.2.

Hello Proto

You were correct. I had missed the CIFS on switch.
I have it running as expected and will now invesigate the 8.02 upgrade.
Thanks so much for your assistance and advice.
