Using USB

I planned to use my old notebook to be my NAS.

However, my old notebook LAN port was broken so I need to use USB LAN port adapter. May I ask if FreeNAS work if I use USB LAN port adapter to connect my network?

Also, other than 2 hard drive in my notebook, I also wish to connect other hard disks to the NAS by USB? So should I connect all before I install FreeNAS or after finished install?

Hi @hkfelix82,

Just don't do that. FreeNAS is not designed at all for laptops. Laptops are not designed at all for being On 24x 7. ZFS is not designed at all for USB drives. Nothing in your plan is even close to its purpose and its design.

Doing that is just asking for trouble and loosing your data.
