Considering a TrueNAS Core system from an old Core i3 system I have, for family use.

I have a couple of Seagate Backup drives (4tb) to store data offline, and have added a USB SATA dock to get better bang for the buck.

Can I use these directly on the TrueNAS Core, or will I continue to use them on my Windows desktop, and import/export over the network.

How old? Do you meet the minimum requirements?

Please understand that while there are a lot of video's on the internet that tell you to repurpose your old computer as a NAS, TrueNAS really isn't that platform. An unstable system can easily destroy all your data. USB storage is just looking for trouble.

Read the resources page and look for hardware requirements. If you feel your system meets the minimum, specs, then give TrueNAS a try.
